The Benedetto Brin was a Regina Margherita-class predreadnought battleship, built at Castellammare di Stabia from 1899 to 1905. It was launched on 7 November 1901 in the presence of the King and Queen of Italy, government officials, and the whole Italian Mediterranean squadron.
It took part in Italo-Turkish war and WWI, when the primal naval opponent for the duration of the war was the Austro-Hungarian Navy. At around 8 in the morning on 27 September 1915, when the Italian and allied ships usually performed the flag-raising ceremony, an explosion suddenly echoed while pieces of the superstructure and the aftmost funnel slowly fell around. It took short of time for the Benedetto Brin to sink in the Bridisi harbour (Italy).
