The steamship Memphis, built by Gourlay Bros. & Co., Dundee in 1892 and owned at the time of her loss by Messageries Maritimes, Marseille, was a French steamer of 2382 tons. 

On February 16th, 1916, Memphis, on a voyage from Corfu (Greece) to Durazzo (Albania), was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-12 , 4 miles northwest of Laghi off Durazzo. She was towed to Durazzo, but sank there 3 days later.
